Two Hungarian Cities in Romania

Sfântu Gheorghe (Sepsiszentgyörgy in Hungarian) is the largest city in Covasna county and is located 32km north of Braşov. It was first documented in 1332 as a free town and was developed as a cultural center for the Székely. Sfântu Gheorghe has a Hungarian majority.

Miercurea Ciuc (Csíkszereda in Hungarian) is the largest city in Harghita County and is known as the coldest city (polul frigului) in Romania. It was founded during the reign of Hungarian King Ladislaus I (r 1077-95) around a castle the king built for himself. Miercurea Ciuc became the center of Székely Land cultural activities and today the city is over 80% ethnic Hungarian.
